    Under-hood Plastic\Rubber Straps

I'm looking for a complete list of the various straps that are used to tie hoses and wiring under the hood of a '69 L36. I suppose one could theoretically derive this list by going through the AIM one by one but that is no guarantee do to the overlapping information that sometimes appears in the AIM plus I think there are production differences when it comes to details like this. Part numbers will work but part numbers with pictures would be better.

Also, on the judging field I haven't seen many (verifiable) original straps. I suppose time and heat makes preserving the originals almost impossible except on very low mileage cars. I have noticed differences in the repros. These seem to rarely draw any attention on the judging field. As long as there is a strap in the correct position, it seems most judges let it pass. One of the biggest differences I have noticed is the type of plastic used to make these straps/ties. Some seem to be a hard (almost brittle) plastic, others are made out of rubber-like material while others appear to be somewhere in between - i.e. a soft plastic but not as stretchy and soft as rubber. Is there any accumulated experience/evidence as to what these straps should look and feel like?

As an example here's a "complete kit" from one of the usual suspects. Is it really complete? What type of material would we expect each of these straps to be made of?

    Thanx

Unfortunately, I'd expect any current "kits" to contain straps/ties made of a plastic material that dries up/fractures and falls off in less than a month. I'm not aware of any source for straps/ties made of the correct material. The injection molds already exist - how tough can it be to get the right plastic beads?

My plastic ties are original. No markings on them other than the number 10

        Gary,

Can you describe the flexibility and feel of your straps? On a scale of 1 to 10 - If we say that rubber is at the "most flexible" end of the scale (1) and hard/brittle plastic is at the other end of the scale (10), where would you place your straps on that scale?

Very flexible and soft, so a 9 or a 10. I doubt that they would easily break, so you should be able to find a few originals at a junkyard, etc as long as they were used throughout the production. Do you actually have a list of locations that they would be installed? I see one on each side holding together the bundle of vacuum hosing at the front of the car.

No. That was one of the requests in my OP.

I think there were 15 to 20 straps used to bundle wires and hoses throughout the under-hood area. Of those I think about 10 were the type you pictured. Some locations used tape of at least two different types. I would love to have a map (with part numbers). I suppose by going through the AIM page by page and taking care to eliminate duplicates, one could build such a map. If Terry were on this thread, I suppose he would encourage me to create the map myself and share it with others. But I'm too lazy and I want someone else to to do it for me.

This is not likely a surprise to you, but Doc Rebuild makes the straps from the correct material. His are FAR better than ones I have seen/handled from other vendors.
