    C3 Rear Window Glass

This is my first corvette and have a dum question. I have a 1975 Vette, my question is, what material should the rear glass be? The car has the rear heater/blower option, shouldn't be safety glass and not plastic? Would a local glass company have the correct glass or do I have to buy it from a corvette parts supplier?

    thanks

It should be safety glass. If you are not interested in correct markings, date etc. for judging, then any supplier will work. If you are going to have the car judged, refer to the judging guide for 1975 for a description.

There is no such thing as a dumb question, John. Welcome to the hobby.

If your car is a convertible it will have a plastic rear window. On a coupe, the rear window should be glass.

      Thanks,
      George

Thanks for correcting me, George. I forgot there were still convertibles in 1975. I don't judge past 1972 and have never owned a convertible of any year.

For 1975 on both coupes and convertibles the rear defroster was still the forced air type. The heating element type started with 1976 when only coupes were available.

Well, if it's a soft top then the rear window will be plastic. However, if it's a hard top it, it will be glass.

              to all,
thank you for your input. I should have added that my car is a coupe "T" top so safety glass is it. Yes, it's an forced air rear defroster. My car has alot of it's originality stock so I might just go with getting the dated glass. It's an L48 automatic PS, PB, AC, PW, so my goal is to get it back close to stock. The first owner had removed all of the original exhaust system including the A.I.R. pump installed dual exhaust so I'll leave that. Again thanks

JohnYou may want to try one of the Corvette recyclers to find a correctly dated original rear window. Bob

thanks Bob. Great idea, I will look into a corvette recycler for dated rear window glass. I'm planning to replace the gasket and interior plastic frame that holds the glass in. I found the frame broken in a couple of places. My guess is someone broke the rear glass for some reason??? The last owner, didn't know why plastic glass was used to replace the safety glass, oh well. My guess someone tried to steal it but the car alarm stopped them.
