    Sportsman class @ chapter meet

    Member of the NCRS,

This year I entered my 1968 corvette in the Sportsman class @ our local NCRS Meet. I know the car didn't come from the factory with sidepipes. My Corvette exhausts thru a set of Hooker Header Super Competition Sidepipes. Will this be eligible to receive a Award in this Class. This is my first time going to a Chapter Meet, I want to be ready for this Pack of WOLVES. My Corvette is missing the correct Exhaust, Smog Pump Systems. I will install these systems this year then enter the Flight Judging Program next year. Will this car serial number be in the NCRS data base after this Sportsman event? Thanks in advance.

Jeff, your car will be more than welcome in the Sportsman class, mods and all. Another thread recently explained how to obtain a plaque in Sportsman. This may be an endeavor you would enjoy while preparing your car for flight judging. Please, before you even attend your first event, obtain a Technical Judging Manual for your car as well as a Judging Reference Manual (latest edition 8th?). The latter will explain exactly how our judging system works and how to get you where you want to be in judging. Also, take your time and attend as many chapter meets as possible as well as a regional, if possible. Do some OJ duty, then jump in as a judge when you are comfortable. In my opinion, enjoying your car and the fellowship at these meets is what our organization is about. You will learn much about your car and will certainly avoid many mistakes while preparing your car for flight judging. Let others help you evaluate your car and advise as to how much "restoring" you need to do. As for us "WOLVES"... just feed us and give us something to drink and we will rarely bite. Chip.

Jeff, If your Corvette shows up at the event, has proof of ownership (registration) & insurance, you get the award. Your car serial number will be in the NCRS data base saying it won a sportsman award. This information will be entered by the Chapter Judging Chairman. Be prepared to help in some way - judge, observer judge, or tabulate as this is a volunteer organization. Most of all have fun! Good luck, Don H.

There is nothing wrong with your VIN being in the system for Sportsman. Flight Judging and Sportsman are completely separate. I would encourage you to start volunteering to be a judge (or Observer Judge) as soon as possible. That will give you the exposure to the system and how it works. From there, the suggestion to buy a couple manuals is a good one. That will give you the written standard of what all '68s are compared to. Certainly, it isn't a flawless system, but it is the best that we have and it is very thorough. I think you will learn a LOT about your car by taking it through the Flight system.

I would also encourage you to approach the first Flight attempt as a base line. After the Flight judging day, you'll have a great assessment of what the car is. You can then make the decision on what you want to pursue. Thanks for joining NCRS and wanting to have your car judged. It is a great experience!

              Dave,

Thats a good plan on the best way to achieve the required 20 points. I was only wanting to get my foot in the door, without Flight Judging my Vette at this time. I see only 122 have completed the Sportsman Award in the 3 year period. Maybe if the Regional and National are close to my State, I might just go for the 20 points. I just want to Preserve these old Vettes and have Fun doing it with the same interested people. I take this corvette to car shows around my state and bring home trophies often.
