Don, Not sure if you have a '57 bellcrank or not.
Blue Springs that you and Al both have are a spring that I would expect to see on a midyear FI. Not '62 down.
This post is not about springs but here's a rule of thumb.
ALL '57 to '65's used one accelerator return spring.
The repro catalogs that use the term: Primary and Secondary Spring are incorrect.
Check out all the aims from '57 to '65. All use but one FI return spring.
Don Your bellcrank is too far forward toward the air meter. That's why you are running out of threads on the accelerator rod. You are at the very end of the rod.
Your air meter to bellcrank rod may also be a '57. To save bucks just take that rod off and massage it to increase the bend. Then you can readjust your accelerator rod to somewhat normal. Look for another bellcrank also and spring. Hope you don't mind me telling you this.

One of the reasons you see two return springs on the old Fi's is this. The poor car owner can't find one spring to do the job so he puts two on. JD

'58 to '62 FI acclerator rod length. Overall: 6-5/8"
Originals have a "W" logo on them.
The right angle of the rod goes thru the bellcrank facing the plenum. Trying to say the 90 degree bend faces the inner fender.

The proper retainer is not easy to find. The auto store and repro ones may not work. No I don't have any.

Oh Oh. My pal Lockwood is using two return springs also. Whatta I know. LMAO. Very funny.
It's paranoia, John, nothing else. Two springs are simply better than one.

Look closely at that FI unit and you'll see several other things which won't pass judging. That weld seam along the top of the plenum, no cold enrichment, the brass clamp for the air cleaner adapter, and (not sure you can see it) there is no Idle Air screw. There are internal changes, too.

Don, After studying your bellcrank a couple of times I finally noticed that it is not correct for a '7320. It's a '57 and maybe an early '58. John

John, Although I have owned the unit for about 35 years, it was not pristine or running when I bought it. Thank you for sharing your insights and knowledge with us. We appreciate your help! Don H.
