Hi All,I have a 70 LT1, late production car (June first week engine assembly). The car is a CTK suffix code and has the original 5 quart oil pan. Currently on the car, there is a complete power steering system (see pictures below). I am trying to determine if this is original to the car. Is there anyway to figure out if the car came from the factory with PS?I know the steering knuckle plugs are missing and I do not think there is an "X" on the cap on the valve. Besides that.... looking or concrete info. Thanks in advance!Dave

Re: 1970 LT1 Power Steering - Is it original?
David------
It's difficult to say with certainty. It's possible it's original but some components have been replaced.
It looks like the valve has a "C" stamped on the end cap. That would be a later GM valve used to SERVICE earlier applications. However, the valve does not have a hose guide like all the "C"-stamped valves do. The valves without hose guides are the type that would have been used on an original installation for your car. Of course, it could also be a rebuilt valve
The 2 "cross-over" hoses are GM; not aftermarket or Delco. However, the end fittings have a chromate over-plate ("gold"). Original hoses used circe 1970 usually didn't have the chromate. I can't see enough of the other hoses to say one way or the other. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1970 LT1 Power Steering - Is it original?
I did some research on the Corvette Valve & Adapter (and the hose guide bracket) back in 2008.
The engineering drawing has the hose guide bracket (7817342) being added to the valve and released for production 2-28-73.
Under normal release that would probably mean that the bracket may have been a 1974 model year addition.
My records show the stamped end cap to have an "X" on the end. The "X" was added in 1964. The "X" was changed to a "C" around the 1974 model year. (The "C" was removed 1978 model year.)

Re: 1970 LT1 Power Steering - Is it original?
Thank you all. I suspected the PS was not original to the car but needed to ask and learn.
Can an someone confirm the part number on the steering box so I can validate that being original?
Hi Ralph - yes this is in reference to my car from Luby. Thanks for the confirmation!
Best,

Re: 1970 LT1 Power Steering - Is it original?
Sometimes, folks don't change the pitman arm when they add power steering. The manual steering pitman arm will work with power steering although I don't advise its use.
The power steering pitman arm is forged 3741383 or 384.
The manual steering pitman arm is forged 3829451 or 452.
One more thing: I don't recommend removing the power steering. If you drive the car, at all, you'll regret it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
