Let me start with a THANKSGIVING for all of you guys who have helped me with my restoration project. I am truely thankful that God has given me a network of guys (and gals!) who share my passion for Corvettes.
That said,
In reading the comments on the '63 Carpet post, I was wondering about the interior paint coverage UNDER the carpet. I know that this isnt judged, but I have decided to go on and restore the interior fiberglass surfaces as new.
On my car, someone had glued some thick (1/2") foam rubber backing down directly to the fiberglass, then glued replacement carpet to the foam backing. I had to scrape, rub and scrub for weeks to get all of the foam rubber remnants up. Under this (non-original) foam rubber underlayment, it appears that the interior fiberglass was originally primed, then painted to match the interior color. My car is Tuxedo black with red interior. It looks like the entire floor had been painted (under the seats, jack storage area, rear storage area) with red paint on top of red/brown primer. But it is a little bit hard to tell for sure where the red paint ends and the red/brown primer begins.
Id like to know what the coverage of primer and interior color paint was. Also, what was the 'order' of this paint (before/after exterior coat, before/after black paint on Z-bar etc., before/after seat belt reinforcements). Thanks for your help and happy Thanksgiving
