I am in the midst of installing carpet in my car according to the assembly manual and it is vague as to how to cut the carpet to mount the belts.I do have the escutcheons on the outboard side but I have never seen an original carpeted car.Any help would be appreciated.

Just inspected my original owner 70 with it's original carpeting. Both of the belts are installed with only the mounting bolt going through the carpeting. Everything is mounted over the carpet. If I was installing new carpet, I would install the carpet in place and then use an awl or ice pick and poke a hole into the carpet, cut an x with a knife and install the bolt mounting the seat belts.
