Big Block Heat Riser Orientation C2

I just finished reading the post and responses of 9/09/02 about this very subject and yet I'm still having a challenge. When I place the heat riser to the forward side with the counterweight toward the engine, the counter weight hits the starter. I've checked with John Pirkle and he explained that I have a correct diameter on my starter. If I rotate the heat riser 120 degrees toward the passenger side pipe the counterweight hits on the inner fender. I can make it fit if I mount the heat riser to the rear but I need to loosen the starter to slide the heat riser past the top of the starter. I want the heat riser to both work and be mounted correct for NCRS judging. Thanks as always for the help. The part number on the counterweight 3746844

    You Should Find This....

in your copy of the applicable mid-year JG book. SB= heat riser counter balance pointing outboard; BB= heat riser counter balance point toward the front of the car.

I don't know if you'll find this helpful or not, AND I don't have a parts book in front of me. I can say that I went through this with my 69BB. I found several "configurations" of the heat riser, i.e., how the shaft and weight were "drilled" through the riser itself. Had to go through several till I found one that mounted "correctly" for my car. Chuck
