Driveshaft for a 1965 250HP

I goofed up! I had the driveshaft labeled and marked when removed from drivetrain. After cleaning and removal of u-joints the markings no longer exist. What end of the driveshaft should be conected to the transmission or can it be installed either way. There is a weight attached with-in 4 " of one of the ends.

The driveshaft can be installed either way. I usually install it with the "weight end" forward, though.

If you experience vibration the yokes are out of phase. You may have to play with the installation a bit to get the front and rear yokes in phase. If the parts are not original to the car or to each other, you may have to take them to a shop for balancing

Do you have a specific rationale for putting the weighted end toward the front? Just curious.

No particular rationale; that's just always the way that I've done it. My VAGUE recollection is that's how it came from the factory, but it could just be because there was a 50% chance that one would get installed that way and that's how mine got installed.

The driveshafts are balanced as a yoke and shaft assembly. The orientation is then indexed so that the shaft and yokes can be installed "in phase" with the original balancing operation. If you put the assembly back together with the yoke 180 degs. away from the original balance point then the assembly is "out of phase" You should be able to find the indexing on the original parts. If the parts aren't original--head to the balancing shop!
