    Engine mount bolts-loose?

Are the two mounting bolts on each side supposed to be loose? I could twirl them. The nuts were rusted on. I took the engine out and had to cut them out due to rust.

Where can I get correct replacements. I've looked in Paragon etc and can't see them in the catalogues.

NONE of the engine mounting bolts are supposed to be loose. If you are specifically talking about the long bolts, one on each side of the engine, which secure the engine mount to the fame bracket, those bolts are available under GM #399803.

      Hi! Joe

I just tried to order two motor mount bolts from a local Chevrolet dealer and they told me they were discontinued. I purchased two from Paragon and they were too short. Any other suggestions?

      Thanks! Ray

        Ray------

Did they look them up or just tell you that they were discontinued without looking them up? I believe that the bolt required is the GM #399803 which I described above. Unless it's been discontinued in the past 2 weeks, or so, it's still available. This bolt is a 7/16-14 X 4-7/16" bolt.

If, for any reason, the above length bolt is too short (and I don't think that it will be), then use bolt GM #12337919. This bolt is 7/16-14 X 5-1/8".

With either of the above, use a flat washer on either side of the bracket and a self-locking nut.

When I get home, I can confirm the correct length for the bolt.

Some I keep "upstairs", some I get out of books, and some I get from other places.

Let me confirm the length before you order the bolts. I'll be able to check in a few hours.

                  Ray and Steve-----

GM #399803 is not only the correct current bolt for the application, it's the ORIGINAL part number for the bolt used on 70-79 Corvettes. It won't have the same headmark, of course, but it should otherwise be identical to the original. It is still available. However, it comes in a package of 5, so you will have to order a complete package unless the dealer stocks them. The bolts list for $2.83/each. Perhaps one of you could buy them and sell 2 to the other.

Oh, and Ray, if you buy them you don't need to go to a different dealer. Just go back to the one that told you that they were "discontinued". This time tell them that you want GM #399803. Then tell them that these are the bolts that you wanted the first time that they told you were discontinued.
