1969 - rad support removal - need extra support?

Sorry for the cryptic subject, the posting software seems to limit the length of the subject line...

I'm in the planning stage of my winter project, replacing the rotted radiator support and lower removable crossmember on my '69. Do I need to rig up some kind of fixture to support the front nose of the body while I have the core support and crossmember removed from the car? Since the center bumper support mounts down onto the crossmember, as well as the lower support for the front bumperettes, should I be worried about all that weight hanging off the nose? Should I build some kind of temporary support to hold everything in place? Given the pace that I work, it could be months before I get through with everything I have planned and get the support reinstalled.

    Thanks,
    Shannon

Hi Shanon. Please look at my question on November 14, subject - radiator removal. The answers you are looking for are in the posts to my question. I currently have the crossmember, front bumper, all bumper braces, radiator shroud, core support, and radiator removed from my 1970. The front end is currently not supported by any external means but I am very careful about leaning on the front fenders. My core support and crossmember were also rusted to the point that they needed replaced.

    Thanks

    Lee

      Shannon,

Once the car is supported on jack-stands, you can cut "custom fit" 2x2 supports that are easily placed between the floor and the hood hinge reinforcemet brackets (in the wheel wells) and/or the surround reinforcemet (just behind the head light assemblies. This will keep the fiberglass from sagging and being excessivly stressed while the RAD support is removed.
