It's called that because it causes an emergency, not avoids one !

I don't believe they (if they = Chevrolet) called it an "emergency" brake. I believe the owner's manual calls it a parking brake. In spite of your experience it is designed to be used while the car is parked.

And it is also adjustable so that it would have actually worked for him in this situation. Mine does.

once GM put the parking brake between the seats it sure screwed up "PARKING" if you get my drift.

That's why they call it a brake. It slows down (or stops) parking, and I get your drift.

              Geoffrey------

Could the "Brand X" parking brake hardware be a product of Blem's "product research"? I've been told that they have a "state-of-the-art" product development laboratory fully dedicated to improving on the original GM engineering for early Corvette components. The problem is that it's staffed with elfs from der forest who do product development in their free time when they're not stamping hoses. The elfs do their best work on the hoses and everything else is just secondary so their product development work suffers a bit.
