I pulled the saddle carpet from my '63 due to significant fading. The replacement set from ACC was unacceptable. It was paper thin, without the plush look and feel of the faded carpet. I have a sample coming from Al Knoch. Is his product the best available ?

Re: Saddle Carpet
I replaced the carpet in my 61 last year, Jewel Blue that has a salt and pepper look. The carpet faded in areas that were exposed to the sun. The 61 has a removeable hard top and did not receive excess amount of sun exposer. I called the supplier and they stated that the carpet waranty had expired and there was nothing they could do.(couple of months past the one year waranty) I ask for the maufactures name so that I would not purchase the same brand as a replacement for the 61, or for the 65 that is currently under restoration. They stated that there is only a couple of manufactures of carpet that all suppliers represent. It will be interesting to read the comments of the other members.

Re: Saddle Carpet
Peter - I am about to replace the interior in my 66 L72, and currently have Al Knoch's covers, buns, and seat backs. I have watched at both Carlisle and Bloomington his technitions and carefully looked at the products, including the carpet. I also took a class in Bloomington on 66 interiors, and, while no endorsements were made, it seemed like most of the students had favored his products with issues from ohters. But, NONE of the vendors will get you an exact match on the carpet...it seems the carpet materials and processese themselves create a situation where you just can't get it perfect. I have to say the vinyl from Al is excellent in my opinion.....Craig- Top

Re: Saddle Carpet
Ditto on the Al Knoch products. I replaced the foam, seat covers and the carpets with Al Knoch products and the match and quality was first rate. Also I was able to watch his guys redo some seats at Bloomington Gold last year where I bought mine and they were EXTREMELY helpful. I would not attempt to do the seats myself without at least seeing them done by a pro first. I didn't buy it but Al Knoch sells a video that would have to help a novice.

Re: Saddle Carpet
Daniel - I watched both as you say, in fact, I stayed for one whole recovering of a 66 leather set of of seats. Things like using a heat gun to get all the wrinkles out at the end are the difference between and OK and a great job. I purchased the video, and materials at the show. The video is first rate, I got the 65-67 seat video, and it is over 2hours long...not just a little ticker lession...Craig- Top
