1970 seat belt light

I put new carpets and seats in my 1970 recently. I removedthe seat belts and cleaned them and re-installed them. Now the seat belt light on the dash comes on if I have the belts on or not. Shouldn't it go off if the belts are put on? What makes it sense if the belts are attached? I didn't see any wires or any sensor type attachments when I removed them. I know it must be simple but I'm stumped.

Daniel, just push the button below the light to shut it off.

The seat belt light on your dash should come on every time you start your 70. I has on mine for over 32 years now. The seat belt light is not interconnected with actually using the seatbelts as there is no sensor connected to the seat belts and the light does not know if you buckle up or not.

Hum, I was wondering about the use of that non working push switch in my 70 dash. If I'm correct there is no explanation in the owners manual, isn't it?

Thanks everyone for the responses. I thought it would go off automatically. DUH. I hate it when I feel stupid but it is happening more often since I turned 50. So the button works and everything is working as it should.

It has been a long time since I looked at my owner's manual, but I believe the function of the seat belt light and the push button to turn it off is explained in the owner's manual.
