    1970 Radiator Removal

Hi - I am replacing the radiator, core support, and harmonic balancer on my 1970 L46 without air. I currently have the front bumper, grills, bumper support assemblies, and front crossmember off the car. I will also remove the hood before beginning the work. Info in the archieves indicates that I should jack-up the front of the car to remove stress from the front of the vehicle when replacing the core support and radiator.

Will having the front crossmember, front bumper, and bumper supports off the car create problems?

    Thanks

It should be no problem for a week or so, if left for a long time you should support the front, I would mount the car on stands, cut a two blocks of wood to the correct height to go between the floor and the metal body mount that bolts to the radiator support inside the front guards.

Is the 73 the same? I've taken the engine out including the rad and support.
The car is now under wraps for the winter.

I thought all the metal work in the front nose is firmly bolted to the frame with 3 bolts on each side. This looks like a lot of support. Maybe the 70 is different or maybe I'm totally missing the boat

        Steve,

I have a similar situation - with the cross member, center brace, and radiator support removed. I measured the distance from the garage floor to the back side of the hood hinge reinforcement (inside the wheel wells where the hood hinge bolts are), then cut a 2x2 to that length - plus an inch. These can be inserted in from under the wheel well to support the nose. You could also do the same at the surround reinforcement, which is just behind the headlight assemblies.
