    C3 Tach/Drive Distributor Rotational Friction

I have what I believe is a recently overhauled tach drive distributor.
The rotational friction somewhat tight as compared to others that I've tried.
Any limitations or guidelines on this?

I have never heard of a spec on the rotational torque, but as you comment it should be nonexistent. I am wondering if someone replaced the bushings in the housing improperly, these need to be alin honed to correctly align the bearing surfaces to be true to the shaft. If someone just drove in the bushings, this may be the case. Also, Dave Fiedler told me there is a large variance in the bushings sold out there in terms of the OD and ID of the bushings, greatly affecting clearance and proper alignment. He has a special fixture on his lathe to hone these correctly after installation. Dave can be reached at www. tispecialty.com ......Craig

Did you remove the cross gear.

Sometimes the cross gear retainer (the part the tach cable screws on to)is tightened too much, and this binds the cross gear and hence, the main shaft.

This has been my experience in many cases. I have also experienced "rebuilt" distributors that exhibit the same problem Craig spoke of.
