    60 Clutch linkage bushing

Has anybody had a problem installing the clutch linkage bushing where the
rod fom the pedal attaches. (fom CC) It seems just a little to big to fit the hole.
I don't want to press it in and get half way and ruin it.

The Rod that goes from the clutch pedel, thru the firewall, to the clutch pivot shaft, attaches to the pivot shaft via a shouldered bolt that goes thru a metal/rubber bushing which goes into a hole in the upright arm welded onto the clutch pivot shaft.
The bushing seems to be oversized and will need to be forced or the hole will need to be made larger for a proper fit. The bushing was purchased from Corvette
Central. Has anybody else had this problem?

        Re: bushing too big

YES, alot of corvette centrals parts suck. one is the bell crank bushing. this has a larger od then the ones that came in our cars. the best thing to do is take a round file and go around the hole just a bit to clean it up. then take some emery cloth to the bushing casing. after everything is cleaned up put some oil on the bushing and press it in. if you beat on it you will tear the rubber.

Larry, I own a machine shop. Sometimes when we have a problem fitting a bushing, particularly one that is supposed to be a press fit, we will take the bushing and place it in the freezer of our shop refrigerator, then if the part allows we will heat the part that the bushing is to be pressed into, then using a bushing installation tool (or a couple of sockets of the correct size from our socket set) you should find that the bushing will go in really easily without having to file or sand the parts which I don't recommend. If all else fails find someone with a lathe and trim the bushing a few thousanths of an inch to get the desired fit. I hope this helps. Don

            Larry,

I just installed the clutch linkage bushing on my '61 last Sunday. Had the same problem, so out came the file and a little grinding. This did the trick. Be careful and take a little off the metal Bushing O.D. at a time. Also do not try and beat the bushing in with a hammer for the inside sleeve is mounted in rubber and both the sleeve I.D. and rubber can be damaged.

I've used several of the CC bushings and had no problems - use a long bolt with a socket on each side of the lever arm, one of which bears on the flange on the outer sleeve of the bushing, and it will pull in fine if the hole is clean. Hint: carry one of the special shouldered bolts, nut and washer in your "road box" as a spare - they're a real "oddball" special fastener, and aren't available anywhere except from the Corvette resto parts houses.
