I'm installing my transmissions and wiper motor. Driver's side is no problem. Passenger side, however, seems a little odd. The upper cable is ALWAYS longer than the lower cable. At park, it's 5.5" longer. At full up, it's 1.25" longer. Is this right? I can get the cables on the motor barrel, but the fit seems a little hinky (not to be confused with Hinckley, which would mean perfect!). Thanks for any help!

Re: push on the trans.
have someone push in on the transmission where the wiper arm goes on. then while your under the dash pull on the cables at the same time. this will let then come out to max extension. to take up the slop just push on it again after you have the cables installed in the "CORRECT" order.- Top

Re: '58 wiper transmission cable lengths
Mike, sounds like the cable may not be wound around the pulley properly. With the inner cable fully extended, I believe the measurement from the center of the shaft to the cable stops (held together) should be about 20-1/8". The only cable which extends is the inner one. Your outer cable may have slipped out of the grove and not be wound all the way around. Remember also that the cables on the right side (only) cross.- Top

Thanks guys
Bob, I already knew about the clutch, just needed to see it the lengths were typical. Thanks anyway, though!
Ed, I have the Restorer CD with the article. I'll e-mail my results when I get a chance. Oddly, this is the undamaged of the two transmissions, so I don't think the cable slipped a loop off, but we'll see!- Top
