4500 rpm burnouts Jerry Bramlett where r u?

Hello all, loving this driver car 67 L79 w/m20 wide ratio and 308 rear. gets a really good burnout when revved to 4500 rpm and dropped. what do you think the limits are when revving and doing the burnouts? dont really want to break anything but enjoy the hell out of a good burnout. I know it sounds a little like I am braggin here, but really not. Just want to hear from some of the ole guys who have some experience with drving them hard.
    Best Regards,

Never did a 4500 rev burn out, but I did snap the real axle drive pinion in two on my close ratio, 3.08, geared SHP SWC when I got off the power and then back on in first gear at about 3500 revs back in '66.

The Corvette drivetrain does not take well to repeated shock loads, but have fun while it lasts.

I put the trans in 4th, then bring Rs to 7200 and come out with the clutch. It worked great.

Do you guys eat hickory nuts for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Or did you just not get it out of your system when you were 16? One good burnout can equal mass destruction (read expensive) on an old car.

If you want to impress somebody, nail it at 90 and break the back tires loose. Much less destructive to the car and the "rice burners" can't touch your act!

Ask Jerry Clark what half-shafts can look like, with a few burn-outs.

I think you're on the wrong web site,

possibly you thought this was Corvette Forum?

We only deal with PRODUCTION and SERVICE burnouts here. Yours sound like REPRODUCTION burnouts.

            Absolutely. Positively.

              Re: Squirrels having fun

Hey when I was 16 i did not get it out of my system. On ereason was I did not have the money to fix it if it broke. so now having fun is the priority. I did the orig owner 435 documented to the bajesus, frame off, bloom gold etc. Never had any FUN with that car, having fun now though. Try it, you might like it

I was at the drags with my cars. My Vette doesn't have Half Shafts.

Ha, ha. Interesting. It depends on how much traction you have. For instance, I wouldn't try this too many times on concrete. Asphalt...well, rev and dump away. Here are the things that you'll likely break if you do have good traction while doing a high-rev clutch dumps: 1) pinion (spider gears); 2)pinion shaft; 3) inner axle; 4) outer axle; 5) u-joint, finally; 6) ring and pinion.

Not to mention the "collateral damage" to fiberglass as the shaft flails around tearing up everything within its length; that can get pretty ugly

                      High praise indeed...

First I'm described on another board as "sort of" living.

Then critics panned my recent NCRS post as completely lacking "interest".

Now my advice is sought on street burn-outs?

Am I like some sort of babbling old man from the last ice age to you guys?

I oughta take my cane and bark your knuckles! You young persons and your loud crap music.... Why, in MY day we did burn-outs on our mules! Or we were flaming asses on public roads. I get mixed up...

Thats the substance I was looking for, thx

Yes, thanks Gerry, thats exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. Why is concrete harder on the car?
                        Regards

I guess I'll Join you Jerry, as the

co-holder of the OLD Bloomington Rental Car Burnout Record - 2 years running - I don't know, sometime in the late 80's; but we got extra credit because when our driver pulled into the lane to a chorus of boos, they did not realize that he had to pull forward 50', put it in reverse and back up at full throttle before jamming it into low to get the wheels to spin at all! That made us a crowd favorite and the cars still got us back to the airport!

when i finished restoring my 62 a couple of years ago i took it out for a spin. after about 1/2hr of driving i was stopped by a road crew. hey nice car, gonna be awhile. i don't think so. dropped the clutch and broke a leaf spring. yep, tore up the fiberglass under the gas tank. it was not fun.
