    Jack Cover

Unfortunately, the the Jack Cover to my "65" was modified by the previous owner to accept two additional stereo speakers (holes cut out of it). I want to replace it and found in Paragon and Corvette Central the replacement wooden cover but can't seem to find any that come with the carpet already attached to it. I assume that I will have to glue it my self, correct? If so, what is the best adhesive for this job? Secondly, if I cant get the existing carpet off of the existing Jack Cover, where can I get a replacement piece of carpet. I can't seem to find this piece of carpet sold outside of a complete interior carpet restoration kit. Any ideas? Thanks Ken

you can't buy a cover board with the carpet on. that would cost a supplier a fortune to stock them this was. use a putty knife and scrape off the old carpet. then use 3m 08080 or 08090 to glue the carpet to your new board.

While you are replacing the board, buy yourself a new chrome thumb hole insert. Take your time removing the old carpet and it may work unless it has speaker holes cut out in it too. If that is the case, color matching may be very difficult. Swapping out the entire carpet in the rear may be the only way to get a consistent color.

        Ken:

Try Al Knoch Interiors, in El Paso, Tx. He manufactures the carpet sets, and might be willing to sell you a partial set. Ask for Dale. They also sell the 3M Spray Carpet Adhesive that you will need, and the Stevens label for the underside of the jack board.

Also, double check the supplier's configuration for the rear storage compartment cover. Some supply a 'one fits all' version ('63-67) and it just might have the thumbhole on the wrong side for your '65. If memory serves the thumbhole changed sides from early to late versions to accommodate a seated driver turning and lifting the cover....

Do not forget the decals on the bottom of the board>
