Has anyone ever had their steering box leak from the area where the shaft connects to the steering column? Can this be repaired without a complete overhaul? It's on a '69. Thanks in advance.

Usually, if there is any leak at this point it will be a rather minor one that doesn't really require service to correct until the steering gear box is otherwise removed fro complete rebuild. If all that you are seeing is a little grease on the worm shaft external to the seal, I would not be concerned about this.
If it's more than this or if you want to try to correct it anyway, it may be possible to do so with the steering gear box installed in the car. However, I really think that, overall, it will end up being more trouble to do it this way than just removing the steering box from the car.
The onlypart that you will require is the worm shaft seal. This seal, GM #5674114, is still available from GM and lists for $16.30. To replace it in the car you will need to first remove the steering coupling. Then, you'll need to remove the large adjuster lock nut and the adjuster plug nut (the large nut that "caps" this end of the steering box). The seal can then be easily replaced. Follow the service procedure in your 1969 Chevrolet Overhaul Manual. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
