C-3 1968 Corvette Door Adjar Wiring

I am tying to restore my 68 Corvette Convertible, and somewhere down the road, ... someone removed the Door Adjar Switches and Wiring. Can someone explain the wiring for the switches and the routing so that I may be able to put it back to original, ..... and have it functional?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Wiring (gauge, color code and RH vs. LH side routing) will be delineated in your '68 Chassis Service Manual's electrical wiring diagram section. Basically, switches are normally closed completing a path to ground which causes the door ajar indicator to illuminate. Switches are in parallel so if either (or both) switches are closed by doors not being fully shut the warning lamp illuminates. When both doors are closed, both switches are open circuit and the warning lamp goes off.

      Steve:

When I pulled apart my 68 convertible interior I found a major mess with the wiring. The previous owner added an aftermarket stereo, alarm system and generally made a mess of the main dash harness.

You will not like this suggestion, but think seriously about a new dash harness. That is what I did. I understand 68's are known for dash harness fires and the insulation on 34 year old wiring is very brittle.

      My $0.02, John

        Hi Steve,

best way to fix it is to install a new harness.

Old harness can get cracks and stesses an can be coroded too. Even the fiber optics can be damaged.
To install a new harness is no problem. All connectors are installed.
