    Engine Hesitation

This may be hard to diagnose without experiencing it first hand but when I drive my "65" 327/300 on the highway and hold it at speeds of approx. 65 or higher, I experience a slight, steady hesitation in the engine that I don't experience at slower speeds. I always run high octane/Sunoco fuel and recently had a new carb put on it. Has anyone ever had this problem or have any ideas? Thanks, Ken

your timing could be too advanced, fuel filter, cap, rotor, wires, plugs. all could cause this problem.

Could be lean. So tell us about the "new carb". Exactly what is it - a real Carter 3721SB or some one size fits all generic replacment?

i forgot to say if you put a new edlebrock afb on you might as well throw it in the garbage as these carbs are junk!

Ken, start with the easy stuff, like a bad plug wire or worn points, rotor and cap. As one stated check the timing. May even be a bad plug, read them after a highway drive. Is hard acceleration OK? If it is, lean condition is more likely.

            Ken:

Hi speed "surge" is usually caused by fuel starvation. Check your float level, and/or anything that might be causing restriction of fuel delivery to the carb. Your fuel tank should have a vented cap.

Thanks to all for the advise and responses.

As for the carb and acceleration, the carb is a new Holley/4 and acceleration has been great since I put it on.

As for the other suggestions, I will follow up on them all before I store her for the winter.

              Thanks again!
