    Fuel Pump Repair on a '62 (C1)

I've got to remove the fuel pump on my '62. I forget how I did it the last time. I think I blocked out details of the experience because I do remember it was very difficult. I do remember that MOST of this work was accomplished from underneath the car. But I can't remember if ALL of it was done from there. Can anyone enlighten me?

Would removing the generator and exhaust manifold help?

(Reason I ask is for planning purposes. Repair work on this car is always done in conjunction with something else. Because I don't have a lift, I plan my underneath-the-car projects together. And I'm considering whether to remove the generator and RH exhaust manifold for other reasons. But I'd rather not right now.)

    Chris,
The pump can be changed from either the top or bottom, but it is probably eaiser to change it from the top. I changed mine from the bottom last week because I had it up on the lift and was too lazy to put it back down! I found that it is almost impossible to put a socket on the bolts from underneath since the pump body is in the way, and had to use a stubby box-end wrench. Just make sure that you have the pump rod sitting on the low point of the cam, and put the bolt in the front of the block to hold the rod when you put the pump back in. The other thing that you have to do, is to remove the gas cap and blow the gas line back to the tank, so that the tank won't siphon out through the open line.

    Regards, John McGraw
