    changing rearend ratio

I have a 1964 fuel coupe that I don't plan to drive much more, it has a 4.11 rearend in it (come from the factory with), but for the limited time that I plan to use it I would like to install a 4.56 rearend. My question does anyone know were I can purchase a NOS or a GOOD rebuilder of such units?

Finding an NOS complete 4.56:1 rear carrier assembly will be difficult. Even if you could find one, the price would be withering.

Finding a complete, rebuilt unit will not be too difficult, but it won't be inexpensive. Expect to pay about $500, plus about $250-300 for the core charge, plus shipping. The following sources can help you out with a high quality rebuilt unit:

    1) Bairs Corvette, Lineville, PA (www.bairs.com)

    2) Van Steel, Clearwater, FL (www.vansteel.com)

    3) Carter's Corvette, Livermore, CA 925-449-2176

I agree. I watched a friend do that one time and turned a car that could be driven somewhere into one that couldn't. Unless you like going down the road at 70 mph with the engine buzzing at 5000 rpm.

Unless you plan on serious drag racing I don't see the point of a 4.56. Even 4.11s are pretty short. Nowadays many are considering going to lower numberical ratios to make cruising a bit easier.

I think most of us have passed the "0-60" stage of life.

duke back when my source of car payments was street racing money,4.56,4.88 and even 5.13 was the weapon of choice.
