I purchased the hood weatherstrip from the local Chevrolet dealer. The new one is about 65" long, longer and thicker than the one I took off. I have noticed a few cars (all different) in town and they are installed shorter, about 55-60". They all seem to be cut even with the indent that holds the male hood lock assembly. If I use the weatherstrip from the dealer it would go beyond that indent by 5" each side. Should I cut the new weatherstrip or install as is? Note, the weatherstrip seems correct for 1965, V on one-sided hollow round on opposite side. I called the Chevrolet Dealer and he confirmed the part number was for a 1965 Corvette.

Re: C2, 65 Hood Weatherstrip Installation
Dave:
The weatherstrip on my '65 measures 45 inches. This would make the ends of the part terminate at the forward edge of the male hood latch. The cross section of the bulb is canted to the base of the strip. It also has a hinge section on each side of the bulb.
I have no reason to believe the weatherstrip on my car is not the original.

Re: C2, 65 Hood Weatherstrip Installation
Dave:
Take a look at your TIM&JG--I am fairly certain that it calls for a return of about 9" along the sides of the hood. I used a Corvette Rubber piece, which also required cutting (I removed about 10"). The weatherstrip should extend a few inches aft of the hood latch pins.

Re: C2, 65 Hood Weatherstrip Installation
Dave-----
The current cowl ledge weatherstrip available from GM for all 63-82 Corvettes is GM #3914293. This weatherstrip is "original" for 68-72 Corvettes, but is the SERVICE weatherstrip for 63-67 Corvettes. The original 63-67 cowl ledge weatherstrip, GM #3823433, was discontinued over 25 years ago.
Actually, I think that the 3823433 and the 3914293 are very similar, if not identical, except for supplied length. So, the 3914293 should be cut to the length of the original weatherstrip that you take off.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
