    C2 - Coolant Flushing

    Evening folks

Why is distilled water preferred over spring, tap, or de-ionized waters?

Distilled water is not required for flushing, but it is preferred to use a 50/50 mix of distilled water and antifreeze for the final fill. The use of distilled water will minimize the amount of trace mineral elements introduced to the cooling system. Clean, potable, water is okay; distilled is best, and for the two bucks it costs, it's pretty cheap insurance.

      P.S.

Deionized water is fine, too, but it's typically not as readily available as distilled water.

As Duke said, it has lower mineral content. This will minimize the chances of the water to precipitate scales. With no dissolved solids in the distilled water, you are that much further away from saturation before scale precipitation could begin. Excess minerals and uneeded chemicals could also react with the chemical package in the corrosion inhibitor additives.
