1968: Rod Between Bumper and Rad Support?

Section 11-13, Sheet A4 of the 68 AIM shows a rod (Item 10, P/N 3938060) between the front bumper and the radiator support.

My February-built BB 68 has no such rod and there appears to be no evidence of holes, front and rear, to mount one.

Is it possible that this rod was a late production feature on 68's or am I dealing with yet another "engineering liberty" taken by a previous owner?

My July built small block A/C '68 has it. Attaches right below A/C condenser. Can't compare specifics to AIM as I'm not at home.

Thanks for your reply, Roger. I thought that finding out for certain whether all 68's should have this support rod would be simple to determine. Obviously not, as there haven't been many responses! I sure would like to hear from some 68 BB owners too!

Not a 68 BB, but my 68 original owner SB does not have this rod. I have a original owner 70 and it has the the rod. By the way, the ole 68 was built in Feb. and is a convertible.

Jim, many thanks for taking the time to reply! You've made me feel better. I would never hold my 68 out as an example of originality. When I come across an apparent disagreement between what the AIM shows and what I see on my car, I just shrug my shoulders and say..."oh well, just one more thing to fix". Perhaps this isn't one of them!!!
