64 painting

Just got my 64 stripped for frame off painting. After reading archives and books, I'm leaning toward lacquer.A local body shop say they have painted several corvettes,and use feather fill over bare fiberglass,then lacquer.Most books say sealer,primer,sand,sealer,color. Seems like there's some pretty sharp guys here,any comments?
Also,I got the car 25 years ago and it had just been painted. Maybe a dumb question, but how can I tell if this paint is lacquer? Thanks for any reply.

When I painted my 70 after chemically stripping it to bare fiberglass I applied primer,sealer, then color. This was in 1991. I did not sand after sealer, time is limited after shooting the sealer before the color coat is applied.
When polishing, not waxing lacquer you should be able to get some color on the applicator. My 68 and 70 will.

Hi! Steve

I am currently in the process of painting a 1965 Roadster with PPG Glen Green lacquer paint. The North East PPG factory rep. suggest that I use a Pollyester Primer/Filler if there was any fiberglass repair, replacement, or if the original primer had been removed. I used PPG MX241 Pollyester primer/filler and was very happy with the results.I plan on appling a red primer only to acheive the original base color and overspray.

Apply lacquer thinner. If there is paint residue, it's lacquer.
