Hi John - I see your links in your profile to your awesome Z28. I am sending my intake to Jerry McNiesh based on your photos and other comments here...he is back from Pomona in mid November. Your Holley looks awesome too, just the right shade IMHO. Looks like a Jerry Luck job based on what he did to my 67's 3814. However, he is way backed up, and I want to get my 66's 427/425 Holley redone, as quickly as possible, but not sacrifice quality. Some of the restorers I have seem make the plating more gold than I prefer, and I want the plating and restoration correct. Was yours done by Jerry or someone else? Thx!...Craig

Aluminum intake reskinning/restoration
Craig,
You might also consider talking with Don Dorfman about the restoration of your intake. Don used to be part of company called ALS (or some combination of those letters), based in Nevada (I think), who was well known on the NCRS DB a few years ago for his work on reskinning aluminum intake manifolds. I tracked down Don in Tacoma, Washington, where he has taken up the intake restoration business again. He restored the 490 intake from my L79 and it came out beautifully. You might compare Don's prices and turn-around time with Jerry McNiesh's. Don can be reached via e-mail at nw_guy4_fun@yahoo.com. I just thought I would mention Don, since it's always nice to know there are at least two people out there competing with one another and hopefully keeping the prices down. I sure wish there were multiple choices when it came to restoring 65-66 power antennas...

Re: Aluminum intake reskinning/restoration
Craig -
Yes, Jerry MacNeish did my 4053-DZ Holley (along with my intake, valve covers, distributor, alternator, and brake booster); he has also done three pair of early low-script 7-fin Corvette valve covers for me - does great work!
We're pulling for him at Vegas and Pomona - he's #2 in the NHRA National Championship points race in "E"-Stock; he runs the original Dave Strickler "Old Reliable" 1968 Z/28 (which Jerry restored to its original appearance as the 1968 National Champion). NHRA-Stock Z/28 302, 3350# car, runs 10.99's at 128 with an M-20 and a 5.13 gear - first gear is good for about ten feet, winds about 7900 through the lights. I have the dyno sheets (and videotape of ten dyno runs) on this season's engine rebuild - 425hp @ 7700; not too shabby- Top
