HELP! There has to be an easier way! I spent all day installing the passenger's side, exterior door handle on my 77. The handle was out of the car when I bought it (I think the guy sold the car rather than install the handle). I looked in the ST-329 and it seemed simple enough - but I still can't get the rear handle retaining nut on and there is a plastic water shield that I found laying inside the door that I see in the AIM but can't figure out how to install. What am I missing? My hands aren't real big, but they must have had munchkins install these parts originally. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks Steve

Re: 77 exterior door handles
You have to drop the door latch down to install the inside nut, at least it makes it a lot easier. I used to see a lot of them installed at the dealerships under warrantee with only one nut put on. The plastic shield goes over the latch. You will see two little screw sockets on it. Match them up with the two holes in your door frame near the latch. One is on the outside jam, one is on the inside under the door panel.- Top

Re: 77 exterior door handles
Jim, Thanks for the response. It is a litle reassuring to know that I'm not the only one in this boat - and that the handle will, probably, stay in place with one nut. I had my six year old working on it as well - I just couldn't meld his hand size with my dexterity. Thanks again Steve- Top

Re: 77 exterior door handles
Wayne, Thanks for the tip - I'm alsmost hesitant to remove more parts in that close space - but will probably try and remove the latch. As for the water shield, I see how it installs, but can't get it past all the interior door parts up to it's location. I suspect I have to flex the plastic part and force it up into its position. Thanks again, Steve- Top
