Hi John,
The resistance is the same, even when the engine was up over 200(BAD HEAT RISER). I thought someone said they had to be dialed in by adjusting the spring tension, but I don't know where I read that. I have a clutch fan in my truck, and you can even hear when it cuts in.

Engine temp is not direct...

My '66 has a clutch fan, and like yours, you can stand near the car and hear the cluch engage, However- the temp of the air coming through the radiator operates the fan clutch. A bad riser, 'stat, etc., could have the engine boiling over, but if the day is cool enough to keep the radiator air cool, the clutch will not engage. In fact, some problems, such as a bad thermostat, will prevent hot coolant getting to the radiator, and guarantee the fan will not engage.
