Recently I inquired about buying a new generator for my 61 and was asked what horspower the engine was. Just curious as to what hp has to do with selecting the correct generator. Does it have something to do with the tach drive vs the engine rpm's? thanks, Mike

That's Right
In addition to tach drive considerations, solid lifter cars are supposed to operate at a higher RPM. A smaller pulley is used to keep the generator revs within design specs. This is another reason to drive your solid lifter Corvette at at least 4000 RPM all the time! That's where the green starts on the tach.
Several generator models exist; each for a particular engine(s). The pulley size is calibrated to the tachometer which is driven at a 2 to 1 or a 1 to 1 ratio.

Wait just a Second here
Sorry to doubt you Rev but the pulley on my '58 1102059 generator is LARGER (Approx 4") than the standard (Approx 3 5/8") 1102043 generator's pulley.
Which makes sense, the larger diameter the pulley the slower the armature will turn.
Hope this helps...............Mark- Top
