a 61. Buddies trying to build an engine for his 61 and the closest casting date he can find is a full 6 months before his assembly date. What is normal? I know on my 60 it was only 18 days before assebly date. I couldn't see anything in the judging guide. Any thoughts. Best Regards Larry

The interval between your car's block casting date and your body build date is about the TYPICAL interval. However, I believe that both NCRS and NCCB allow a full 6 months "window" since, in exceptional situations, it's THEORETICALLY possible that such an interval could have occurred. This is VERY generous. However, I would guess that, given the generosity of the standard, that judges would be disinclined to stretch it further (e.g. 6 months + 3 days).In Appreciation of John Hinckley -
The reason for the 6 month rule is to
accomodate less-than-proliferate engine combinations; for instance, L88 motors MAY have been "batch-built" at Tonawanda and SOME might hang around St Louis for an extended time. If the 61 is NOT one of these, don't push the envelope beyond 6-8 weeks.Comment

My 1967 L79 KH car (PS,AC, and Calif A.I.R) was a May 11 car, with a April 29 body build date, and the engine was built on Feb 24. This is a rare combination unit and seems to fit the batch rule...it has been verified by Al Grenning and the pad is in his registry....CraigComment
