    '57 manifold choke tube

I recently had the carbs rebuilt on my 57. The rebuilder said that the choke had alot of carbon inside of the works and that it was caused by the tube inside the manifold being rotted away letting exhaust gasses and carbon get into the choke. I bought a new manifold choke tube from Dr. Rebuild and it is flared on both ends and about 6 to 7 inches long. Is this correct, and if so, is there any simple way to replace the rotted out tube. thanks as always

use a drill the same size as the tube , that will remove the old one then install the new one!

Are you sure you have the tube that supposed to go inside the manifold as opposed to the one that goes from the manifold to the choke cover? The names of each may be similar.

You want the one that goes inside the exhaust manifold. I don't believe it will have flares on both (or either) ends. Usually you can find them in stainless steel.

        Rex,

I had a similar problem with my '57.

The choke tube is inserted from the bottom of the exaust manifold. It is tricky to line up with the top hole in the exaust manifold. I used a straightened coat hanger to line it up at the top. I have a punch that fits the diameter of the tube (both ends are flaired to hold both ends in place)and use the punch to drive the tube in place. I then would "stake" the bottom of the exaust to help keep the tube in place.

I went through a few choke tubes before I realized that they were not lining up and seating at the top, then they would fall out.

If you would like I would be happy to send you the punch I had made to fit this choke tube. I haven't had a problem for the last two years.
