Nubs on wheels 7 inchs wide

What is the best way to create nubs on wheels that were made for 1968 and newer corvettes. I want to put 1960 hubcaps on these and put them on my 1960 corvette.

I made a cardboard template of an original wheel of the nub location. Then I had a welder but a small bead at each location. When I got home I used a small grinder to level the bead to the proper height.

I used one of the hubcaps as my location pattern by using 3/4"X1" length masking tape wrapped around the out side edge of the hubcap so I could transfer the location to the wheel. It is important that the two nubs located on each side of the valve stem are prescion located, the other two aren't so critical. I set the hubcap in the wheel and using a second set of tape strips marked the edge of the wheel lined up with the tape on the hub cap. using a wire wheel in my Dremmel I removed the paint from the wheel in the area that the new nubs would be located. I cut four small pieces of masking tape to match the footprint of the nub and using a caliper I placed the small tape pieces where the nub would be. Then I painted the wheel black around the four pieces of "nub" tape and then removed the four "nub" tapes leaving me four bare metal areas the size of the nubs and properly located on the wheel. I took one of the original wheels to the welder so he could see how much bead I needed. The bare metal(silver) areas contrasting to the black paint gave it easy for the welder to see the "footprint" with his helmet down and he wasn't trying to strike an arc through the paint. When I got home, I wire brushed the burn't paint and then shaped the weld beads with the Dremmel. I made the two "nubs" on each side of the valve stem a little larger then the original nubs to ensure that they locked in on the recessed areas of the hubcap so the cap wouldn't rotate. On the other two I would grind and fit, grind and fit until I could just snap the cap over the remaining to "nubs". I wanted the cap to be a very tight fit.

I used smaller welded beads on the seven inch wheels on my 60 and finished them with epoxy ground to the proper shape with a Dremel tool. Looks great and I haven't lost a hubcap in eight years. You will love how your car handles with wider tires.
