    Re-Post of Thermstat Housing 3972128

Does anyone know if the above part is a Corvette thermostat housing? The books I checked only have a few years of Corvette related parts. If no one answers this post I'll forget about re-posting it.

Joe Lucia are you out there????

    Thanks..........

    John-----

In your first post you asked what application that this piece is for and I couldn't positively say, so I didn't respond. Here's what I can tell you:

I can find no record of a FINISHED part with a part number of 3972178. If there was, I can find absolutely no record of it. I believe that this was a either a CASTING number only or it was a PRODUCTION-only part number. It MAY have been the same as the GM #3877660, except without the small, triangular boss extension on the base of the casting which, on the 3877660, is used an anchor point for the accelerator return spring on some models (but not Corvettes).

Examine your 3972128 casting and see if it is functionally configured very similar to or, even, identical to the 3877660. If so, and if the Corvette involved is a 1970-73 model, then I'd say that the thermostat housing could very well be original to the car. If the car is much earlier than 1970 or later than 1973, then I don't think that this thermostat housing could be original.

If possible, I'd like to see some pictures of this thermostat housing, digital or otherwise.
