heater control assemblie 79 vette

I have a new control assemblie for my heat controls and a/c control
the slide control lever for the cold to hot when i slide it over to cold
it will not stay it keeps coming back to mid way on the slide is there a spring or something i need to use to keep thia in place. I know the water control valve is pushed in when this is to be in the cold slot is there suppose to be a spring at that place help

I don't recall a spring on either end. My best guess is you have the air door cable misadjusted. If the cable is adjusted so the air door closes at mid dial, that is where it will return to even if you are able to dial the indicator further forward. If this is the case then the door is not opening fully either.

I just came across this in the shop manual and, as well, as I was disassembling my dash interior.

According to the shop manual, there should be .100 to .020 gap between the edge of the opening and the side of the lever. The adjustment is made by rotating the cable turnbuckle to lenghten or shortern the cable. The turnbuckle should be a white piece of plastic that turns in either direction and connects both ends of the cable. You'll find it underneath the center console. Remove the passenger side...center console side panel and you should find it hanging out there.

My lever when pushed to cold...will come back perhaps an 1/8 inch from the edge...if that helps.
