Question on 1960 corvette- Where the clutch rod comes thru the firewall there is a clutch felt seal and retainer made of metal. Which side does the part go? I have seen them mounted on both on the interior and the exterior of the firewall. Which is the correct mounting? The assembly is of no help. Thanks

In 1958 through 1960 the bracket was definately on the inside of the interior firewall. In 1961-62 production the beacket moved to the engine compartment side of the firewall. I'm sure that assembly personel installed a few brackets the "old way" during early 1961 production. The AIMs for all years 1959 through 1962 support this opinion as does my experience in judging unmolested Corvettes.

      Hope this helps.

A good friend owns an eleven thousand mile 61 which is also a five star bowtie car and his is on the inside. I'm not sure about the serial number though.
