    Date code

I seem to recall hearing that there is an allowable amount of time before the assembly date of a vehicle for the parts used. Is there a generic rule of thumb or is it specific to the type of part. I seem to recall 6 months?

    Thanks for the advice, John

    John,

The '66 JG states a 1 year difference is allowed for glass.

      Re: Date code

Without advice to the contrary, the 'general' rule is 6-months. BUT, there are a handful of exceptions where we know certain rare/low volume parts (E.g. L-88 castings) were run as a 'batch' and inventoried. There were also isolated situations where strikes affected production flow and/or sourcing. So, the best bet is to crack your JG book and look up the exact part/issue to see if there is isolated advice over-riding the generic 6-month rule....
