72 puff of smoke when starting.

Hello, I have a 72 454 and when i start it perodicaly it tends to put a white puff of smoke out of the exhaust then immediatly clears up. It didn't do this before. Is there a setting on the carb that needs adjusted ( such as air fuel mixture ) I am not that familiar with rochesters just hollys. This one has a rochester and is all stock. Thanks Eric

    Eric,

Generally, the puff of white smoke on startup that clears up immediately is oil passing by the valve guides. This could be do to weak valve guide seals and/or worn valve guides. Smoke from carb problems tends to be black and sooty. I doubt if it affects performance and I would consider total oil consumption before I pulled the heads. Good Luck, Steve
