    1967 Heater Core

I recently had the heater core go out on my 427/400 air conditioned coupe and I am having a hard time finding anyone willing to work on the car.I was wondering if I did not replace the core, could I put a rubber cap on the heater control valve outlet (where a small hose goes into the core at the firewall),and reinstall the hoses. This would effectively prevent water from getting to the core and the hoses would appear to be hooked up properly. I realize the heater would not work, but the car is never driven in the winter anyway. Could I then operate the car safely, or does the coolant need to circulate through the core? Thanks!! Yes, you can operate the car safely. No, the water does not have to go through the core.

Keep in mind that with a pressurised system, you have to block both the inlet ant outlet from the cor to prevent leakage.

I made a bypass for my 67 427 390 last year with copper pipe fittings from Home Depot. I did not have to alter the heater hoses and water still circulates through the hoses. The bypass is a "U" shape with an adapter to change the size of the pipe to fit the different hose sizes. I painted the copper pipe with paint that was left over from my radiator restoration. The total cost was less than $3.00.
