62 fuel gauge

After seeing a post earlier I decided to tackle my fuel gauge. I ran a extra ground wire off a fuel sender screw and cleaned the contacts on my tailights along with the ground. The gauge only moves from being off to the empty line. Any other suggestions? Is there a particular screw to run the extra ground of off? Is the something I need to do to reset the system or something? I am not very good at electrical.

My '60 had the same symptom. The problem was the sending unit - leaky float.

Thanks Tom. I ahve an extra sending unit so I will try that. I was always told it was electrical. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks Tom, that did the trick. Good thing I waited two years to do that. Does any one make a replacement float so the sending unit is still usable?
