What (if any) are the things to look for in a 1970 LT1 to identify it as such. What is the correct block #, intake #, etc. Also are there any other things to look for? Thanks - Joe

Re: 1970 LT1 ID
The LT1 used a 350cu. block. Most of Chevrolets 350 blocks between 1969 and 1979, passenger cars, trucks, and corvettes were all the same number: 3970010.
The LT1 block should have a suffix stamped into the front passenger side of the engine block just below the head. The suffix for a 370hp LT1 would be CTK or CTR or CTU. Also at that location the balance of the numbers should include a portion of the cars identification number. If this number does not match, the engine is not original to the car. The correct carburator for the LT1 is Holley R4489A or Holley R4555A. The correct distributor is 1111491. The correct alternator is number 1100884. Some of these parts were also used for other years but you should be able to find a date stamp on most of these parts.- Top

Re: 1970 LT1 ID
Check the tach. 6500 redline. Only 1 fuel line, no return (look for signs of a second line cut.) No expansion tank for the radiator. The alternator mentioned was only found on some 1970 AC cars and LT-1s. Also, if you get the VIN, check out the 1970 registry (thanks to Juliet) at www.1970corvetteregistry.org to see if it is registered and for additional info on the car. The car is easy to clone.- Top

All the numbers are presented on the Jump from that page.
Most important is the 780 cfm Holley, the 6500 rpm redline, no expansion tank, heavy-duty suspension, and the correct heads.
Also, with that cam and the high compression, it will really get legs about 4500 rpm.
Good luck
