Just recieved my weathershield car cover and its not as soft as I had expected.
Has anyone had any experince with this cover or any reconmadations on a cover.

Not that one personally, Ed. I can tell you that they feel more abrasive than they really are, even the very soft-lined covers. I'm using a very old Evo3 cover and have never had a paint problem, but it doesn't go on the car when the car is dirty and the 'Vette is a weekend car so the cover isn't being subjected to daily use.

The important part is that you bought the cover for its intended usage (indoor dust cover, outside harsh weather...) and you got the cover you ordered.

The following is my opinion based on my own personal experience. I have a couple Weathershield covers. They are not as soft as some but for a car that is outside in the weather this cover offers great protection and does not scratch the paint. I like it the best and I have had many covers over the years.

I have had numerous covers made out of a material called Noah, Technalon, and Evolution from Kimberly-Clark. These materials are softer but not very durable. I cannot recommend them for use outside when exposed to the weather. Mine only lasted two years. The first year or two they are okay but then the material breaks down and leaves a gray powder residue (like talcum powder) on car when it rains. Needless to say I was not happy to see my once clean car now a mess after a rain. These materials also will rip/tear easy. Also the manufacturer recommends they not be washed in washing machines with agitators as the cover may rip. A friend washed his Evolution in a machine and it came out ripped to shreds. The best way to wash this material is with it on the car, then take it off and hang it up to dry.

The Weathershield can be washed in your home washing machine with no damage. I have had excellent results washing the cover. The material is strong and really provides excellent protection from the elements. Also, it is not as bulky as the Noah/Technalon/Evolution material. If you will not have the cover exposed to the elements then the soft flannel cover is best for a car stored inside.

I've bought the "Plushweave" covers for many years from California Car Cover Co.; Gray cotton on the outside, soft plush cotton flannel on the inside. I just use them in the garage during winter "hibernation" season as dust covers (haven't used them outside), and I'm very pleased with them. They "breathe", are guaranteed not to scratch your paint, and are recommended for indoor use or outdoors in "fair weather". I've never washed one, but they recommend using a jumbo-sized front-loading commercial laundromat washer and air-drying.

I have two covers from 'Back East' car covers (PA, I believe). One is simple cotton, unlined and the other is like what you describe: cotton outer with cotton flannel lining. They're both used as indoor 'dust covers' and have served well; however, I washed one (the lined oneI and made the mistake of putting it in the dryer--big time shrinkage! An interesting note from the company owner who sold me the covers at Cralisle some years ago: he said that many people find that the flannel lined covers are more prone to scratch, since the nap of the lining can hold bits of dirt etc which mark the finish as you install/remove the cover. I guess the best advice overall is to never, never put the cover on a dirty car.

Hi Ed. I purchased a very nice custom made cover from Coverking, telephone 619-569-8111, in Santa Ana, CA. It is available in different colors and mine closely matches the Monza Red on my 70. It is primarily designed for garage storage but can withstand the elements on occassion. I am very pleased! The delivery time was about six weeks after I ordered it. I think the price was about $250.
