62 rear axle bearings

New bearings came with a seal on one side and a "sheild" on the other side, like a sealed bearing.
Do I remove sheild so gear oil in rear end can lube and cool the bearing or leave as a sealed unit? David

Remove & discard the "shield. Reverse the orientation of the rubber seal and install such that differential lubricant can enter the bearing. The correctly oriented seal should appear on the OUTBOARD side of the bearing.

Thanks Dale; That is what I noticed also about the seal (that it was backwards from original). I purchased new seals allready for that reason. David
