    Patrick -

If he doesn't have a numbered 2003 Viper Voucher, registered with Chrysler and countersigned back to him with the vehicle order number, he doesn't have one ordered; none have been allocated to dealers, although some dealers are "taking orders" and telling customers they have one ordered (no dealer orders have been accepted - all of the cars were vouchered and ordered direct through Chrysler, and delivery assigned to the dealer the customer selected). I hope he has a contract that says he'll get his deposit back when the dealer can't deliver.

john, if i understand you correctly D/C went directly to the viper customer bypassing the dealer. that should piss off the dealers that stocked vipers before like the dealer in idaho who has 5 brand new 02 on his lot. that does not sound like a good business practice to me. GM tried something like this with the C-5s,only dealers who sold so many corvettes got C-5s.

        Clem -

We did the same thing when the new '96 GTS Coupe was introduced - the dealers as a whole didn't lose anything, as the cars were still sold and delivered through the dealers and they got their markup and holdback just as they normally would. Only 20% of Dodge dealers are certified to sell and service Vipers, and the volume Viper dealers probably got most of the deliveries anyway, as they provide the best service and the owners stick with them. We pay VERY close attention to the Viper customers, and listen to them; the only dealers that will howl are the ones who only got one or two cars a year in the past and jacked up the price; the volume dealers sell them at a discount from the MSRP anyway, as they want the customers to come back again for another one. As long as the cars are sold and delivered through a dealer, there's no violation of franchise agreements, and this system eliminates the "ripoff" dealers who jack up the price on a new model from the process.
