Prep before dropping engine/tranny into car

    Hello,
I'm starting on my 1962, 327ci/340hp, 4-speed. I've completed my new gas tank install, all fuel lines back to engine. All new brake lines including new master. Finished new muffers with all new hardware: tailpipe to exhaust manifolds (w/HP cross-over pipe). Installed ignition shielding, all new engine parts (too long to list). Besides tranny, bellhousing, etc... can anyone think of things I still need to do inside the engine compartment prior to dropping both motor and tranny together? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks...Don

You don't list it, but in case you haven't... Install the fuel pump before engine drop.

Just as a precaution against possible damage, I would remove the upper shielding and the distributer cap.

          1. Clean and paint the compartment.
          2. Replace the crossover brake line.
          3. Make sure the steering drag link is adjusted.
          4. Put the fuel pump on.
          5. Install the exhaust manifolds and adjust the hangers for the ignition shielding.
          6. Locate the hole in the firewall where the old screw for the carpet hold down was.
          7. Put a transmission yoke in the back of the trans so the gear oil doesn't spill out. Or, remember to fill the trans after you put it in.
          8. Make sure the front and rear trans seals are good.
          9. Make sure the "J" nuts for the shift console screws are secure.
          10. Make sure the blind nuts for the radiator shroud are good.
          11. Put the radiator and shroud in after.
          12. May not want to install with the distributor in.
          13. Be careful of fuel pump when installing.
          14. Make sure shift linkage is adjusted.

            Chris,

What can I say...thanks a million. Chris, who've given me enough "does" & "don'ts" to save my butt. I knew some, but you really made me stop and think about all I have or haven't done. Thank you and I'll start putting these suggestions to use ASAP. Again, thank you, take care and keep in touch...Don
