After much work and rework on my original equipment carb, I've decided to store it for the future. I am in search of a good cadidate replacement part. Suggestions? The car has the 350 cu in, automatic, air, ps, options. I,ve been told that the "Demon" carbs are very good. Unfortunately I've also been told several model numbers to purchase. Some of these suggestions by the "Demon" folks themselves. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: 72 carb replacement
Steve----
I would highly recommend that you stay with a Rochester Q-Jet or Q-Jet clone manufactured by Edelbrock. This will provide the best, overall performance and driveability for your application. It will also provide emissions legality and will not require a host of other modifications to your car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 72 carb replacement
Absolutely. Install the same jet and rod combination that you've found works in your original carb, and go from there. I plan on swapping my original 1971 Q-jet to an Edelbrock replacement as well, possibly even this winter. I'll then have a few originals on the shelf for if/when I ever have it judged.

Re: And...
You can forget the Demon since it is a square-bore carburetor and will not fit your spread-bore manifold without an adapter (which is a completely unacceptable solution). You are, as Joe and Patrick wrote, in a much better position by considering a Rochester Q-Jet, the Edelbrock Q-Jet (be advised though that there is no direct cross application for the factory 7042202 carb, but that's not really a big deal), or even the Holley spread-bore.- Top

Re: And...
The Edelbrock #1901 is "essentially" a direct replacement for the 1972 carb. As I noted above, though, I'd install either a) the same jet and rod combination as original, or b) whatever combination he's found works well in his car. In that case, you'll have as close as you'll ever come to a new "1972" carburetor.
