    Painting '66 hood

    Hello,

So now that I found a hood my next question is about painting the underside. I am a little confused as to how much of the body color is underneath and where it should stop. Was the body color painted first and then masked? Is the body color the same quality of finish as the rest of the car?

    Thanks,

    Ian

    Re: Painting '66 hood

The body color extends around the edges and the flat ledge outside the support structure. Since the hood was mounted on the car at the time, under the extreme front edge recieved nearly no coverage, bare glass. The blackout was then done and has ragged edges at the turn down of the support structure. Near the hindges the black usually flares out covering most of the ledge. It also left the extreme front edge bare. The break between the blackout and the color is the radius where the weatherstrip goes. The color is raw shot lacquer which has little shine because it is not buffed.

Wayne, do you know of any good photos?

      Wayne,

I've heard several descriptions of the body color and blackout treatment on mid-year hoods. I think this is really a case where a picture would be worth a thousand words. Do you know of any good photos showing the correct paint detail around the side and lower edges of the hood?

      Thanks,

      Gary
